This isn't a post about The Princess Bride. Although I took The Princess Bride quiz on Facebook and I didn't score too badly. It was pretty tough.
So what is inconceivable to me, is that there is actually a different meaning for the words WANT and NEED. I do not comprehend such things. A want is a need and a need is a want. How can anyone separate the two?
Maybe, it's just me. I realize that I'm a bit unusual, a bit insane, a bit confused and toss in some vampiristic tendencies, and yes you have a rather unique individual, but I refuse to believe that I'm the only person on this planet that cannot separate the words want and need.
I want to go outside and play.
I want to travel more often.
I want to write more often.
I want to take more pictures.
I want to see more, do more, read more, hear more, have more, live more, breathe more, laugh more, experience more.
I want ice cream.
I want a job that pays 100k/year collecting seashells on the beach.
I want lots of kisses and hugs from my girlys today and everyday.
I want it all and I want it now.
Now replace all of the 'want' with 'need' in the sentences above and the meaning is exactly the same. The sentence and what it means to me is exactly the same. Want equals need. I've just proven my hypothesis.
I'm calling Websters, I just found a way to reduce the English Dictionary by one word, doesn't matter which but there is really no reason to have both, they are interchangeable.
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means."
I want a White Russian..........
ReplyDeleteyep, you're right!
I think the difference (for me) is that a want is a luxury and a need is a necessity.
